Save the Date for the Great Beer State Conference January 11-13th, 2023 in Kalamazoo Michigan! This will mark the third year of a combined meeting with our partners at the Michigan Brewers Guild and Master Brewers Association of the Americas. Details to follow.
 

MSU Hop Field Day July 13, 2022, 10am-4pm

The Plant Pathology Farm at Michigan State University (3735 N College Rd, Lansing, MI 48910) will be hosting a Hop Field Day from 10 am to 2 pm on July 13, 2022.  This is a FREE event and open to all folks who are already growing hops and/or Barley, as well as those that are considering these crops.  A tentative schedule of speakers will consist of the following Presentations:

            ~Update on Disease Management of Hops (Ross Hatlen)
            ~Fungicide Drench Trial (Timothy Miles)
            ~Hop Viruses in Michigan-Update (Carolyn Malmstrom)
            ~Downy Mildew Disease Management Trial (Timothy Miles)
            ~Hop Nematodes and Management Trial (Timothy Miles)
            ~Halo Blight Management Trial (Timothy Miles)
            ~Spotted Lantern Fly Update (Mike Reinke)
            ~Variety Trial (Timothy Miles)
            ~Barley Disease Management Research at MSU (Jill Check)
            ~Trial Discussions and Future Directions (Timothy Miles)
            ~Discussion with local brewery – Educational Tasting 
                 (Nicole Shriner will discuss MSU brewing research)

Lunch will be provided by Grand Traverse Pie Company and Rob Sirrine will discuss Hop Terroir research.  The MSU presentations will conclude at 2:00, at which time the Hop Growers of Michigan will be hosting a meeting from 2:00pm-4:00pm to share Board Meeting highlights with members and prospective new members.  Discussions will include recent grant applications and awards, HGM marketing updates, and MORE!! MSU’s Online Class:   Hop Production in Midwest and Eastern North America

This online, on-demand hop production course is offered through Michigan State University and provides detailed and comprehensive presentations and resources that address all aspects of hop production from economic considerations to postharvest handling.  The course was developed for beginner or prospective hop producers but could also be utilized by more experienced hop growers.
